THIS IS NOT MASSAGE

In Māori cultural beliefs, everything is connected by Mauri (life force/life essence). When this connection diminishes or is interrupted in any way, well-being is compromised, and we are no longer living in a state of wellness. Instead, we are living in a state of disharmony.

Pain is an indicator of dysfunction and the body's way of informing us that something is wrong. Mirimiri and Romiromi seeks to restore energetic flow, balance, function and wellness to the person; therefore assisting the body to heal and access its own healing systems.

MIRIMIRI AND ROMIROMI

Mirimiri bodywork is a traditional Māori healing practice that rebalances, restores function and releases deeply-held tension in the body, through agitation of tissue, muscle, bone, blood and fluids.

Techniques used include applying pressure to the trigger points and pressure points, using tools such as kōhatu (stones), spine and joint alignment techniques and the use of hands, feet, elbows and bodyweight to work the muscles and tissue.

Many people are surprised to realise how much tension their body is actually holding. Left untreated, this tension can lead to not only muscle pain and restricted range of movement - but over time may negatively impact on mental health and wellbeing.

Māori bodywork originates from the centuries old wananga lore of traditional healing.  It utilises a holistic approach to restoring wellness to the mind, body, spirit and emotional being. The build-up of tension in the body is the result of an accumulation of the stress and trauma we experience throughout our lives. Left untreated, it can lead to pain, illness or dysfunction on a physical, emotional, mental or spiritual level. Mirimiri healing helps reverse these effects by bringing holistic balance back to the person.

Kōhatu (stones) such as pounamu (greenstone) or river stone is often used in Māori bodywork to draw toxic energy from the body, or to apply concentrated pressure to specific haemata (pressure points).   Similarly, rākau (wood) can be used to apply pressure and aid manipulation, and wai tai (seawater) is always used for energetic cleansing and to provide spiritual protection.

How does it work?

Mirimiri and Romiromi is suitable for anyone who has pain, tension or restriction of movement. Treatment focuses on physical, emotional or spiritual release, through agitation or 'stirring up' of energetic blockages.

Māori healing modalities, including Mirimiri and Romiromi, work holistically not only to heal physical ailments, but also to balance your wairua (spirit) and mauri (life-force/essence) and aid recovery from trauma or emotional distress.

Once lingering trauma or stress is cleared from the system, the body is then able to heal itself and energy, vitality and balance is restored.
